Rain Welcomes The Opening Ceremony on the Seine, Céline Dion Delivers an Instant Classic

Ep. 03 | Friday | July 26, 2024 | Day 0 of the Olympics | Rain Welcomes The Opening Ceremony on the Seine, Céline Dion Delivers an Instant Classic

Summary

For the first time in Olympic history, the Opening Ceremony takes place outside of a stadium and along a six mile route along the Seine. Rain was feared and eventually fell during the ceremony,  but it didn’t dampen the spirit of revelers that evening. I sat over on Pont de la Tournelle where the can-can dancers from Moulin Rouge performed and over 200 delegations paraded via boat.

Céline Dion capped off the ceremony with a stirring rendition of Edith Piaf’s L'hymne à l'amour and the Olympic Flame made its debut as a floating balloon over the skies of the Tuileries Garden.
