The World Went into Lock Down and then I Heard This Cover

La vie en rose by Lucy Dacus x French Films

This is an ode to Paris with a cover of La vie en rose by Lucy Dacus that I edited together. Images have been swirling in my head since hearing her cover and now they’re all laid out here.

It was in some ways an avenue to channel some of the restless anxiety that's been building up in the midst of these times. La vie en rose was originally released after WWII after France was liberated from Germany's occupation. And it gave people hope for the future to come.

Hopefully this timeless song with a modern twist can act as a respite from covid-19. In time, we will all embrace, kiss, and dance together again. Until then, stay safe.

La vie en rose

Lyrics by Édith Piaf, Music by Louiguy, Cover by Lucy Dacus

Quand il me prend dans ses bras // When he holds me in his arms
Il me parle l’a tous bas // He speaks to me softly
Je vois la vie en rose // I see life through rose-colored glasses

Il me dit des mots d’amour // He speaks words of love to me
Des mots de tous les jours // Everyday words
Et ça me fait quelque chose // And that does something to me

Il est entré dans mon coeur // He has entered into my heart
Une part de bonheur // A piece of happiness
Dont je connais la cause // The cause of which I know

C’est lui pour moi, moi pour lui aujourd’hui // It’s him for me, and me for him today
Il me l’a dit, l’a juré pour la vie // He said to me, swore it forever

Et dès que je l’aperçois // And when I see him
Alors je sens en moi // I feel inside me
Mon coeur qui bat // My heart beating

Hold me close and hold me fast
This magic spell you cast
I see la vie en rose

When you kiss me, Heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose

When you press me to your heart
I’m in a world apart
A word where roses bloom

And when you speak
Angels sing from above
Every day words
Seem to turn into love songs

Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be

La vie en rose
La vie en rose
La vie en rose
